Crew, AI pilots and people in the company

  1. Hire a pilot
On the Crew screen, in the Hiring tab, pick an airport — the one from Dispatch, a base, a place where your aircraft is parked, or any other by ICAO — and you see who is applying there: skill, hours, ratings, salary and which of your aircraft the applicant can fly right away. A hired pilot starts at that airport. The hiring fee is paid at once and the salary every month, even when the pilot does not fly. A large hub attracts more experienced people than a small airfield.
  2. Ratings and training
A single-engine aeroplane needs an SEP rating, a multi-engine one MEP, a helicopter the helicopter rating, and aircraft from 5,700 kg MTOW also a type rating for that exact type; the skill required grows with the aircraft’s weight. SEP and MEP cannot be gained by training and skill only grows by flying — a type rating and the helicopter rating can. In a pilot’s detail, the Can fly section shows each of your aircraft and what the pilot is missing for it. The Training tab offers every type that needs a rating and, before you click, tells you the price, the duration, the salary after training and whether the pilot will be good enough for the type even then. Training is paid at once and the pilot does not fly meanwhile; your own training centre at the pilot’s airport makes it cheaper and shorter. The instrument rating (IR) decides whether they fly into fog.
  3. Where a pilot is and how to move them
A pilot is always at some airport — where they were hired or where they last landed — and flies only an aircraft parked at the same place. To send them elsewhere, use Move on the pilot: they travel as an airline passenger and cannot fly until they arrive. The ticket and the time on the way grow with distance.
  4. Crew by aircraft
Every aircraft type says how many pilots it needs: small aircraft one, regional and airline aircraft two. Up to four pilots may be on board — more pilots take turns at the controls and may fly longer. The best of them is always captain: the landing and the fuel burn depend on them.
  5. Rotations and what the server does every five minutes
A rotation is a route one of your aircraft flies round and round with a fixed crew. The server goes through it every five minutes: when the aircraft is on the ground and its crew is with it and allowed to fly, it takes the best-paying jobs to the next airport on the route and dispatches the flight. Below the set load factor it waits, or, with ferry flights allowed, it flies with whatever it found. It never takes the whole board at an airport — part of it stays for players.
  6. What is checked at dispatch
For your own aircraft, choose AI crew on Dispatch under “Who flies” and tick the pilots who are at the selected aircraft. A pilot who may not fly it shows the reason by their name and, when a type rating is missing, a Training button. The server then checks everything: the number of pilots for the aircraft and for the length of the flight, location, ratings and fatigue, jobs AI may not take, the weather at departure and destination, and every pilot's duty time. If something does not fit, it says by name who cannot fly and why. An AI crew does not fly a rented aircraft — you fly that one yourself. When weather stops the AI crew, let the flight wait: the button in the “Flight not dispatched” window defers it and the server dispatches it by itself as soon as the weather allows — at most until the bookings expire. A waiting flight is listed in Operations and can be cancelled.
  7. Real-time flight and landing
An AI flight takes as long as yours. After the planned arrival the server closes it on its own: the landing depends on the captain's skill and fatigue, pay and costs are worked out as for your flight, and a message arrives. A weaker captain burns more fuel. The crew stays where it landed and every pilot is credited the whole flight — skill grows by flying.
  8. Fatigue, duty and rest
A duty is a series of flights without the required rest in between: either one long flight or a few short ones — never mixed. More pilots on board may fly longer in one duty, but each is charged the whole flight. Then the crew rests, and nobody flies beyond the hour caps for 28 days and for a year.
  9. Morale and resignation
Fatigue grows with flying, faster at night, and drops on the ground. A pilot who lands rested gains morale; one who lands exhausted loses it. A pilot with low morale resigns, goes to the job market, and a competitor can hire them.
  10. What AI will not take, and why
Express and critical shipments, valuables, medicines, dangerous goods, sightseeing tours and humanitarian missions stay with players — they pay the most or want a human at the simulator — and so does part of every board. An AI crew also will not fly into instrument conditions unless every pilot holds an IR, take a single-pilot aircraft below minima, or fly into a crosswind above the aircraft's limit.

People in the company

invitations, roles and pilot share

Company invitations

An owner or director invites another player into the company themselves: on the Crew screen, People tab, they enter the player’s e-mail or name and pick a role. The invitee accepts or declines there too; a player without a company sees it right after signing in, in the window for starting a company. An invitation is valid for a week. A player can be in several companies at once — switch between them in the top bar — but may own only one. Ownership is never transferred by an invitation: the owner gives a member the Owner role there, in the member’s role picker, and may then leave or lower their own role. You can leave a company any time, except as its last owner.

Account and company

The Account button in the top bar opens the password change, the download of your data and, for an owner, the company details and closing the company. Download my data gives a JSON file with your data — account, memberships, your flights with a simplified track, messages, invitations, your own actions such as review requests, account request, tracker installations and sign-ins; it contains no passwords or keys, and you can download it five times an hour. There the owner renames the company and changes its three-letter code, each at most once every 30 days, and the home airport at any time — profit is taxed by its country (after a change only from the next month), bases and aircraft do not move. Only the owner can close the company, after typing its name: the aircraft go to the market without compensation, money and debts stay in the dissolved company’s ledger, the other members get a message and the next company starts without starting capital.

Role

An observer only watches. A pilot flies the company’s aircraft: books jobs, dispatches flights, sets up rotations, rents aircraft from a rental company and moves crew to another airport. A dispatcher may do the same and also buys, sells and looks after maintenance — aircraft, slots, buildings, commodities. An accountant buys, sells and looks after maintenance like a dispatcher and also deals with the bank, but does not fly. A director may do all of that and runs the company: hiring, training and firing pilots, alliances, invitations and member roles; but a director does not appoint or remove another director. An owner may do everything and is the only one who can dissolve the company. Member roles are changed by an owner or director on the Crew screen, People tab. What a role may not do, the server refuses and says why.

Flying for a member, briefing and repair after a failure

A dispatcher, director or owner may dispatch a flight for another company member whose role flies: on the Dispatch screen, under Who flies, they pick in the Flying field who will fly it. The flight then belongs to that member — they see it in their tracker, only their tracker may record it, and they get a notification. No further flight is dispatched for a member who already has another flight in progress. The briefing (a flight preview without dispatching) opens for every member, observers and accountants included; only roles that fly may dispatch. A pilot may repair an aircraft grounded by a failure (AOG) at the airport where it stands; checks, airframe life extensions and other maintenance are ordered by a dispatcher, accountant, director or owner. If a member leaves the company or is removed mid-flight, their tracker can no longer close the flight — anyone in the company who flies cancels it on the Dispatch screen with Cancel flight.

Pilot traits and illness

Every pilot has one or two traits, visible already when hiring. Positive: Smooth landing (softer touchdowns), Penny-pincher (less fuel), Tough cookie (tires more slowly and falls ill less), Night owl (night flying tires them no more than day). Negative: Heavy-handed (harder touchdowns), Fuel guzzler (more fuel), Hypochondriac (falls ill more often and for longer), Blowhard (morale drops faster). Each positive trait raises the salary by 10 %, each negative one lowers it by 10 %. A tired pilot may fall ill after landing — the more tired, the likelier — and then does not fly for 1 to 5 days while the salary keeps running. A rotation takes another free pilot of the company at that airport, or waits, and the company gets a notification.

Pilot share

A player-pilot flies another company’s aircraft for a share of the flight’s job pay, set by the owner in the invitation and changeable any time (the admin sets the cap). On settlement the share goes to the pilot’s own company and shows in the ledger as “pilot share” — a crew cost for the operator, revenue for the pilot. It is counted only from commercial jobs of a human flight: bonuses, belly cargo and humanitarian missions are excluded, and an AI crew is paid a salary instead.

Crew

Crew. My pilots with skill, fatigue and morale; in the detail hours, salary, ratings and which of your aircraft they can fly right away — and for the rest, what the training costs. A hired pilot flies in real time even while you sleep — and draws a salary even when not.
